Legendary Canadian musician Fred Eaglesmith coming to GB

GORE BAY—If you are a fan of Canadian music, you have heard the name Fred Eaglesmith, it is the name most often dropped by Canadian musicians from coast to coast and a name usually uttered with an unabashed tone of awe.

Mr. Eaglesmith has spent 42 years on the road and is no stranger to Manitoulin, having performed to appreciative audiences on the Island in the past. In fact, he has amassed a legion of “Fred Heads” across Canada and the US and a reputation as the epitome of a stand up guy.

Mr. Eaglesmith draws upon an almost bottomless well of experiences to craft songs that speak to the Canadian experience. Those experiences included growing up poor in a religious farm community with eight siblings before running away from home, hopping freight trains and heading to Nashville with little more than a prayer and a guitar case full of songs and winning a coveted JUNO—maybe not exactly in that order, but you get the picture. He’s a man who commands the stage with authenticity, whether that stage is in Canada, the US or Europe.

Oh, and he is funny too.

On this tour, Mr. Eaglesmith is touring with his wife Tif Ginn, an outstanding musician in her own right. Ms. Ginn is described as “a gutsy, amazing singer and a transcendent songwriter who has spent most of her life touring and playing music. Her impressive, sultry vocals and glorious harmonies with Fred, along with her multiple instrument additions to the show will have you in awe. This girl has it all, including Fred.”

The Gore Bay performance will take place 8 pm Friday, October 28 at the Gore Bay Community Hall, advanced tickets are $25 and $30 at the door.
