Providence Bay News and Notes

Fall has certainly arrived. The leaves are changing on a daily basis providing more and more splendorous views around each corner on all of our beautiful back roads.

The Mindemoya River from the bridge on Highway 551/542 to the bridge on Highway 551 is a fish sanctuary from September 25 to October 31 and there is no fishing allowed.

The monthly euchre tournament results are as follows: First place was Susan and Mike with 85 points; second place went to Betty Jean and Bill with 83; third was Mark and Tina with 79 points; and fourth place was Irene and Pat with 77 points. The Low Hand went to Lenora and Sharleen. The Lone Hands winner was a tie between Bernice and Linda and Irene and Pat with seven lone hands each. Another great night of cards. Keep on coming out to the weekly euchre games. The tournament is held the last Tuesday of each month. All games begin at 8 pm and a light lunch is served.

Many geese can be spotted out in the fields, and where there are geese in the fall, there are hunters. Good luck to all geese hunters. Bow season has also opened for deer hunters and remains open until November 21 when the rifle season starts.

Tim McFarlane is back on Canadian soil with spouse Maciek Zielinski from the UK and visited Toronto’s Casa Loma, Ripley’s Aquarium and the CN Tower before heading to Niagara Falls to meet up with mom Bonnie. They’ll all be returning to Providence Bay in time to enjoy a fantastic family Thanksgiving.

Ray Smith is back visiting from London.

The monthly breakfast will be held at The Providence Bay Curling Club on Thursday, October 6. Breakfast begins at 7 am and goes through until 9 am. You’ll receive a great hearty buffet breakfast.

The Curling Club is also holding their general meeting at the club on October 6 at 7 pm. All are welcome. New members are welcome as well. If you don’t know what it’s all about, come on out to the meeting and ask.

Thanksgiving weekend is coming up. Many Haweaters will be returning for the long weekend and many visitors will be coming as well. This marks the last long weekend that the ferry will be running. A reminder to everyone to remember to give thanks for all of the positive aspects of our lives and days. Let us know if you have any family or visitors home. We’d love to print it and inquiring minds would like to know.

This is the last call for anyone interested in decorating their yard or poles to help out our little village in the Harvest Glory Days Challenge. The judging will be held the week after Thanksgiving.
