LITTLE CURRENT—The Little Current Lions Club Haweater Weekend is kicking off tomorrow night (Thursday, July 28) with the Miss Manitoulin Pageant at the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre in Little Current starting at 7 pm.
This year’s pageant will see six girls compete for the 2016 crown including 17-year-old Michelle Campbell of Mindemoya, 14-year-old Zoé Couillard from Kagawong, 15-year-old Hope Gulyas of Manitowaning, 14-year-old Kieran Harper-Hogge of Little Current, 16-year-old Delaney Madore of Gore Bay and 17-year-old Megan Misner of Gore Bay.
The contestants will undergo a multi-tiered process to determine who will be awarded the title of the next Miss Manitoulin which will include one-on-one interviews prior to the pageant with the judges and during the pageant, a fashion show featuring Island fashions, an evening gown competition and a talent or speech component.
This year’s judges are Turners of Little Current proprietor Debby Turner, Miss Manitoulin 2015 Brittany Manitowabi and Expositor New Media intern Carly Gordon.
“The organizing committee is so excited for this year’s pageant,” said Miss Manitoulin committee member Robin Burridge. “We have an amazing day planned for the girls with motivational speakers and workshops on the morning of the pageant, followed by one-on-one interviews with the judges and then an afternoon of pampering with hair by Phreddie Shore of Hair and Nails 2000 and makeup from Ashlyn Gargour of Flawless Finish.”
“The judges are really going to have their work cut out for them this year,” added fellow committee member Alicia McCutcheon. “All the girls are friendly, accomplished and beautiful inside and out.”
The fashion show will feature the hottest fashions of 2016 from Dreamer’s Cove, Outpost General Store, My Ol’ Blues, Boarderline, The Island Jar, Cindy’s Clothesline, The Kuku Hut and Turners of Little Current.
Returning this year as the pageant host is Kelly Timmermans from Country 103, Great Lakes Country.
All of this year’s contestants will receive swag bags full of loot, generously donated by Manitoulin businesses, while Miss Manitoulin 2016 will receive a special gift pack with big ticket items like a ticket to Manitoulin CountryFest and two tickets to a featured boat tour with North Channel Cruiselines.
