M’CHIGEENG–On the evening of July 11 the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service received a call of a vicious dog attack on the M’Chigeeng First Nation. A 64-year-old female resident and her dog were walking by a residence on Old Highway 551 when a two-year-old bull mastiff escape its compound attempted to attack the small dog. The victim picked up her small dog and the bull mastiff continued the attack and bit the victim. The victim sustained a large bite wound to her right torso and received numerous stitches to repair the wound as a result of the attack.
A 62-year-old man from M’Chigeeng First Nation was charged under the Dog Owners Liability Act because of the attack and was summoned to Provincial Offences Court on the September 1 in Gore Bay.
The UCCM Police Service would like to remind dog owners that they are liable for damages resulting from a bite or attack on another person or domestic animal.
