Corbiere team wins annual MICC Men’s Open Championship

GORDON—The father-son team of Warren and Justice Corbiere has repeated as champions at the Manitoulin Island Country Club (MICC) Annual Men’s Open held this past weekend.

The Corbiere’s blazed their way to a 15 under par total score of 129 (62-67) over the two day, 36 hole tournament which drew a total of 78 players. Finishing second was the team of Phil Laforest and Dave Leipala, who posted a two day total score of 137 (70-67).

“I would like to thank everyone for coming out this weekend to take part in the men’s open annual tournament,” stated Dan Marois, master of ceremonies at the awards ceremony Sunday evening. “As usual we would like to thank Myrna Thomas and her kitchen staff for a great weekend and a fabulous meal Saturday evening.” The longest putt prize was sponsored by Dave Carr.

“Thank you to Arthur Pummell and the grounds crew,” said Mr. Marois. “Also to McQuarrie Motors and Noble Lumber for the hole in one sponsorship prizes, as well as Arthur (Pummell) and Myrna (Thomas).”

In the second flight, the team of Aaron and Mark Laasko took top spot with the team of Mike Varey and Kyle Kelpie second. The third flight was won by the team of Rick Cooper and Dan Cretzman, with Gord Reid and Marcel Leclair in second. Taking top spot in the fourth flight was Wally Bennett and Scott Bain, with Bob Marsh and John Garrett second.
