Assisted living
Pat MacDonald chaired the meeting, as board chair Paul Moffat had informed the board he would be late to the meeting.
The board discussed Dr. Roy Jeffery’s proposal to the Manor board, asking for the donation of land to build an assisted living facility with contracted or shared services with the Manor.
Ms. MacDonald noted that Dr. Jeffery had a meeting with the Northeast Local Health Integration Network, and that the board was awaiting information on how the meeting went.
Administrator’s report
Manor Administrator Michelle Bond told the board that the home had received an inquiry regarding changes made to the building to accommodate a potential resident’s wheelchair.
Extendicare Regional Director Keith Clement said that the changes would be quite costly to the home.
Ms. Bond said that the individual is from Ottawa and that she hadn’t officially applied yet.
The board discussed how the home wasn’t in a position to accommodate this individual or her renovation requests.
Ms. Bond was pleased to note that the home was operating at a 99.9 percent occupancy with 22 individuals on the waiting list.
She also informed the board that the home was planning on hiring two summer students to help with food services.
She said the bathtubs that the Manor purchased from another long-term care home were to arrive this week (the week of June 13) and would be installed shortly.
The accounts receivable were “very clean,” as many of the residents are now on pre-authorized payment.
“The Canada Day celebration preparations (for the silent auction, barbecue and yard sale) are going well,” said Ms. Bond. “On a different note, we had someone come and look at the solar panels, and were told that they were so out of date and missing key pieces that we would have to get new ones.”
Extendicare report
Mr. Clement said that they were waiting to hear what the cost of the arbitration award would be. He was also happy to report that Extendicare would be donating to the Manor’s 50th anniversary gala next spring.
Fundraising
Board member Wendy Gauthier told the board that the ‘Calling on You’ call bell campaign has reached $67,000. She also reported that they would be holding a Christmas in July event as part of the Canada Day celebration at the Manor to raise awareness about the Tree of Lights campaign.
The date has been set for the Manor’s 50th anniversary gala on May 6, 2017 at the Little Current recreation centre. Planning is well underway for the event with ideas including an online auction prior to the gala that ends at the event, dinner and dancing.
She was also pleased that Country 103 and North Channel Cruise Line had already sold over half of the tickets for the Country Fest dinner cruise on Wednesday, August 3 with Brett Kissel, with only 37 tickets remaining.
