LITTLE CURRENT—The long-anticipated renovations of the Manitoulin Health Centre’s Little Current site Emergency Department began on Monday, June 27.
Staff have been busy moving equipment and storing items to ready the space for construction crews. The construction will be completed in two phases over the next six months, with half of the space in use while the other half is under construction.
If you or your family need emergency services, please be aware the department is open and staffed as usual 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
“During the renovations we do ask for, and sincerely appreciate, your patience and understanding,” said MHC CEO Derek Graham. “It will be challenging, as a result of space constraints and increased noise, which may affect the emergency department experience for patients and families.”
Waiting times for less serious or non-life threatening conditions may on occasion be longer during renovations. Patients may be asked to return to the waiting room or to wait in a chair if someone more urgently needs a stretcher due to the severity of their condition, as a result of the smaller space open for use. “Rest assured that our staff and physicians will work to minimize disruptions whenever possible,” Mr. Graham said.
“Our goal is to improve the experience for our patients, families, staff and physicians in a modernized environment, one that is more conducive to safety and patient flow,” the CEO added.
“Once again, we thank you for your patience and understanding during the renovations, as we look forward to the successful completion of this very important project,” said Mr. Graham.
