SUDBURY—Track and field athletes representing the Gore Bay Royal Canadian Legion Branch 514 brought home a very impressive total of 15 medals (top three finishes) from the District H Legion Track and Field Track Meet.
“Gore Bay Legion Branch 514 had 11 athletes compete in Sudbury at Laurentian University on Saturday, June 11, in the District H Legion Track and Field Meet,” said local team organizer Daryl Leighton. He pointed out the athletes brought home a total of 15 medals.
Leading the way was Aysia Francis-Debassige in the 11 and under girls’ division. She garnered a first place gold medal in three events: the 100 metre, high jump and long jump. She also placed third in the 200 metre race.
Shaolin Roy finished first in her 300 metre race and second in the 800 metre race. As well, Brooke Gibeault was fifth in the triple jump.
In the 11 and under boys’ division, Mason Leighton was second in the 200 metre race and third in both the triple jump and long jump. He finished fourth in the 100 metre race.
Lucas Wright was fourth in both the triple jump and shot put.
In the girls 13 and under category, Sierra Pangowish finished first in both the 800 metre and 1,200 metre runs, and fifth in the long jump.
Victoria Trudeau placed second in the 200 metre race, third in the 300 metre and fifth in the long jump.
Sophie Hietkamp finished first in the high jump and fourth in the long jump.
Malia Leighton was third in the high jump, while Bailey Yaschuk-Middaugh placed fourth in both the 200 metre and 300 metre races. As well, Macy Pearson was fifth in the long jump.
