M.S.S. Kids in the Halls

The final two months of school are going by quickly for the students and staff of MSS.

A group of students went to Stratford on May 19-22 with Ms. Bauer, Ms. Zahnow, and Mr. Scott. The group was given the opportunity to view the plays Macbeth, Shakespeare in Love, Chorus Line, and A Little Night Music. Additionally, the group will be participating in an interactive prologue about Macbeth and touring the Costume Warehouse. The group went to Raja Fine Dining to experience some new tastes and culture. After a weekend full of exciting events, the group returned home to spend the last two days of the May Long Weekend with their families.

The Track and Field team travelled to Elliot Lake last Wednesday to take part in the North Shore Secondary School Athletic Association (NSSSAA) Track and Field. Each student on the team competed in 3 events, making the odds of going to Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics (NOSSA) very high. The MSS team did very well, and 24 of the competitors from our school will be travelling to North Bay for NOSSA on May 25. Maggie Eadie, a Grade 10 student at MSS, said, “I did pretty well. I got first in running long jump, second with my relay team, and third in the 100 metre dash.”

The NOSSA tennis competition took place last Thursday at Jeunesse Nord in Blind River. The results were Bryce Mastelko and Mackenzie Turner placing second in Senior doubles, qualifying for Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA). Shelby Hester and Sarah Hovingh placed fourth, Alayna Cranston and Maddy Niven placed third, Faith Taylor placed fourth, and Jackie Cooper placed third. OFSAA will take place in Toronto on May 31-June 1.

SHARE/Go Green is preparing for their E-Waste drive on Saturday, June 11 from 9 am to 3 pm. SHARE will be collecting old cell phones, old electronics, and household batteries. This is an environmentally safe way to dispose of your old junk. Remember, the amount of zinc in one double AA battery can save the lives of six children in a third world country.

Prom is only a couple days away, and the attending students have been talking about it non-stop. The Ballroom Masquerade takes place on May 27 from 7:30 to 10:30 am.

Students will have to try to balance school work with the many end-of- year school activities. ‘Til next time, stay golden, Mustangs.
