MANITOULIN—Manitoulin Island will be without power this Saturday as Hydro One rebuilds the Espanola transmission station and undergoes maintenance work across the Island.
Brian Dellandrea, customer operations manager for Algoma-Manitoulin, explained that Hydro One is undertaking construction work, part of which is the rebuilding of the Espanola transmission station located on the north side of Espanola, which is fed by the main line. The power outage has been coordinated with the Domtar mill, as it must be shut down during these operations. The outage will take place from 7 am to 2 pm and affect 10,452 customers.
“We’ll also be piggybacking on their outage and completing a lot of maintenance work across the Island,” Mr. Dellandrea added.
The local affected areas will be all areas south of Lang Lake, including Whitefish Falls and all of Manitoulin Island, including Killarney and Cockburn Island. Espanola will not be part of the outage.
Another Hydro One outage is scheduled for Sunday, May 29 from 7 am to 2 pm.
