MANITOULIN—Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) has received a $1,600 grant from the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) Sudbury Branch to purchase small engines and various tools for the school’s technology classrooms.
The grant was provided through the CIM Innovation Educational Funding program to promote engineering/technological education, with an emphasis on programs connected to the mining, metallurgical, petroleum industries and trades.
“With this investment, students from Manitoulin Secondary School will benefit from a dynamic hands-on learning experience,” says Manitoulin Secondary School Principal Laurie Zahnow. “We thank CIM for supporting our efforts to enhance the educational opportunities that we offer in technology.”
The small engines and tools will be used to teach the four-stroke cycle on a single cylinder engine. Students will be able to disassemble, examine, measure and reassemble the engines.
“I extend a special thank you to teacher Steve Robinson who submitted this funding proposal on behalf of Manitoulin Secondary School,” adds Principal Zahnow. “We are grateful for his leadership, which will make learning in our technology classrooms that much more relevant.”
The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum facilitates learning and professional development in the Canadian minerals, metals, materials and energy industries.
