Presented by Grand Haw on Haweater Weekend

MANITOULIN—The Little Current Lions Club is asking the public to nominate someone they feel is deserving of the Haweater honourific, despite not meeting the standard qualifications of having been born on the world’s largest freshwater island, to be inducted into the sacred realm of Haweaters during a citizenship ceremony this coming Haweater Weekend.

The club has been in discussion with the Grand Haw himself since last fall and, with his blessing, is now seeking submissions for those deemed worthy of the Haweater title. An esteemed panel of genuine Haweaters will be looking for someone who embodies the Haweater spirit and is a community-minded Islander who has made contributions of themselves for the betterment of Manitoulin.

The citizenship ceremony will take place during the opening ceremonies of Haweater Weekend, which this year will be Friday, July 29 in downtown Little Current and be conducted by the elusive Grand Haw.

Nominations for Honourary Haweater 2016 will close on Friday, July 8, should be no longer than 500 words and can be sent via email to lclions@hotmail.com or by mail to Little Current Lions Club c/o Honourary Haweater, P.O. Box 205, Little Current, Ontario, P0P 1K0. Please include the name, address and telephone of both the nominator and the nominee.
