The Manitoulin Expositor places in three categories at national awards

TORONTO—An esteemed panel of judges comprised of journalists and media experts from across the country have had their say in naming the best of the best in community journalism nation-wide and this year, and The Manitoulin Expositor has placed in three categories.

For Best Photo Essay, The Expositor placed third for the layout titled “A fisheye perspective of a day on The Purvis” by Giovanni Capriotti. First and second were both taken by The Yukon News. The judge in this category was James Masters of The Sun Times in Owen Sound.

In the acclaimed Best National Editorial category, publisher Rick McCutcheon placed third for his piece titled ‘Proper raising of boys is fundamental to Canada’s future.’ First was taken by Northwest Territiries News/North and second by The Eastern Graphic in Montague, Prince Edward Island. This category was judged by Colin Perkel of The Canadian Press.

Lastly, The Expositor has again placed for its website www.manitoulin.ca, taking second place. First went to the Hill Times in Ottawa with third place going to the Coast Reporter in Sechelt/Gibsons, BC. This category was judged by Kris Hodgson of Communication Arts in Lethbridge, Alberta.

The Expositor is up for two provincial awards this Friday night in Vaughan, again for Giovanni Capriotti’s work aboard The Purvis and for best website.
