GORE BAY––A Sudbury man has been fined $1,000 for an illegal deer hunt.

Howard Morrison pleaded guilty and was fined $1,000 for hunting white tailed-deer without a licence.

Court heard that on November 18, 2015, conservation officers received information from a landowner that a deer had been shot and removed from his property. Even though Mr. Morrison had a valid licence, he admitted he shot the deer in an area where he did not have written permission to hunt. The deer was seized and donated to a local charity.

On Manitoulin Island, a deer hunter’s licence is only valid when accompanied by written permission from the landowner to hunt on the property.

Justice of the Peace Darlene Hayden heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Gore Bay, on March 3.
