Matthew Garniss is busy with his new business plan for the old Home Hardware building. He is busy cleaning out the buildings over the next couple of weeks and then will begin the process of designing the building for a cafe, health food store, several galleries and booths that will be selling a variety of goods. There are still units and booths for rent and anyone interested can reach him at matthew.garniss@gmail.com. Isn’t it wonderful what he is doing to attract more business to our area? Keep up the great work, Matthew.

Gloria and Sandy Sandercott have returned home from their holiday in Florida and a Caribbean cruise. The cruise was great except for one unforgettable stop. On their way to the Grand Turks Island at 3 am their ship received an SOS call from a sinking boat four miles away. Their ship stopped and put three lifeboats out to go and rescue the men on the other boat. This took about six hours to do and bring the four men back to their ship safe and sound. They were then transferred to the coast guard ship that had arrived. Because of the delay they were not able to go to the Grand Turks Island but everyone on board was very happy that they saved four lives as their boat sank. The balance of their holiday was very pleasant.

It was a beautiful sunny day for a sleigh ride over the fields and onto a trail through the bush. Lots of chatting and laughter was had, trying to hang on to each other when the horses would jerk to a halt. Later at the Hall they had a sing song with Lyle Dewar, Carol Gilmore and Mike Wilton with their unusual musical instruments They celebrated birthdays with cake, snacks and hot chocolate. Everyone enjoyed a fun time! Thanks to all who helped make this a wonderful event.

Ice is never 100 percent safe but given the start of warmer weather, it has caused the picket lines to be pulled and closed by the Manitoulin Snowdusters’ last week. It appears that spring is coming. Ice huts have all been removed from the ice. The half load signs have been posted on the Government Road and other back roads as well as the Mindemoya River Bridge. Canada geese have been spotted heading north and the rainbow trout have been spotted in the river.  Just in time for the official start of spring coming this weekend.
