Tehkummah Talk and Times

At Freshco this nice girl comes up to me and tells me I have beautiful hair. When I’m waiting out in the entry, she goes by and I tell her it’s strange, but today I find out I may soon have no hair. She has a nice smile and wishes me well. She comes to the window and has a darling little paraplegic bunny called “Buttercup.” It even has a bunny diaper/pant on it!

Then I chatted with Anne Addison. She was nice. She used to help out my cousin, Shirley Van Every. She was with her husband, Lyle, and we talked of family. This is almost the end of our journey.

We stopped at Green Acres for our same name chicken burger, so good! Home at 7 pm.

It’s been another interesting part of this journey. My chat with the oncologist in the morning, where they tell/warn you what is ahead. And instead of the proposed three chemo treatments, it sounds double to me!

Spent the afternoon with Karen. She says, “Don’t even think about this part (for at least three months).” Sure is a busy spot (radiation).

While we were having a coffee at Tim Hortons in the building, I met a nice handsome young man called Drake Trudeau. He and his grandmother, Donna, were visiting his mom, Linda, who has been having a hard time health-wise. Young Drake had just been to Ottawa to be recognized for an essay he had written on “Truth and Reconciliation” (equality of all races). I got called to my appointment before I finished speaking with him. Congratulations! (This was for all of Canada.)

Well, Sherry calls this morning with updates on Jodi’s health. She was having an appointment yesterday in Prince George. Then she was talking to Kathy and Kim. Some health checking on Kim, too. Are we falling apart?

We stayed at the Best Western in Sudbury on Sunday night. I had to call for a stepladder to get into bed. Just joking, but it was close!

Terry brought me a couple of muffins this past week. He was having a busy day.

Well, I must say my days are most interesting. Pat Novak came in this morning with our most recent compilation. I wrote a couple of important notes and received some beautiful cards and messages even from friends I have that I have never met yet! From Ingersol, Joyce Smith and Marilyn Edwards, Roy and Frank. Hello Irwin. Thanks for the note!

Went to the post office and then to Mum’s where I found today was our U.C.W. meeting at Reta’s. Fortunately my old clothes were green (St. Paddy) so I didn’t have to go home to change. We waited there for Pauline to pick us up. Audrie, Mum, Pauline, Bev, Lynda, Noreen, Lorna and our guest, Loretta, were in attendance. It was a short meeting. Long auction and fun! Delicious lunch.

Susan came in for a visit this evening.

Happy birthday to Wayne on March 10, Jase on March 20 and Dave on March 23.

On Wednesday I was dreaming the phone was ringing and I was fishing for it among my blankets and it did ring and it was Joan calling. They’ll be home in three weeks. She says the weather’s great.

The drums are working overtime on my musicians this morning. It’s raining pretty good!

Here it is Friday morning already. Sherry called last night. My first chemo treatment will be in Sudbury on March 24.

I was talking to Kim and Kathy on Wednesday evening. He’s taking it easy.

We had five tables at cribbage on Wednesday afternoon. Once again, lots of good food to eat. Thank you all! Thanks Dorothy for continuing to put the coffee pot on, and setting up. I am sure grateful. High hand, Bill and Laura, 24 (tied); first and second place were tied, Graham and Sheila, Bill and Betty Jean, 953; third, Jean and Mary, 931; low, Joy and Bert, 856; door, Margaret (Case) and Laura.

We had breakfast at the beautiful Sheguiandah Hall on Saturday morning (delicious pancakes and maple syrup). Our coffee pourer was John (B). We shared table space with Gib and Florence, Doug and Marion. It was nice to see Nancy and Dale Sagle and meet their granddaughter, Trinity. She was going fishing with her grandfather after breakfast and is spending mid-winter break with them. Such a beautiful day. We saw quite a few wild geese. A fly just landed on me. Don’t know if that’s good or not? I’m sitting on my bench in the sun. Cal just dropped me off a few minutes ago. The cat’s are all out and around me.

Don’t forget the Easter Egg hunt this month.

Boy, oh, boy, are the birds ever singing in the trees today. Last week Lori said she had seen five robins, and we saw a crow carrying some nesting materials.

The snow drops are up in great profusion. As the snow ebbs away (in the bush area), they are showing their tiny white bells. A crow flew over and all the music from the trees ceased. I can feel the sun tanning my face! The darn deer broke down the bird feeder again.

Cal and I went to Carol’s and Earl’s for supper on Friday. We shared table space with Keith and Kathy Size. She gave me her fruit cake.

I say it must be spring and things are looking up. Fred and Lynn Fry and Anita and Jack Greenway were out and about! Lots of deer, too! I don’t think they’ll hang around the open fields too long this year but head straight for home turf. A lot of the wild geese are already two by two on Sunday. On our little after supper drive we counted 85 deer. That’s if I remembered them all. It was lovely and leisurely! That extra hour of daylight is precious. We drove the circle tour and checked the ice (with our eyes) at Sandfield, drove past Bill Case’s creek, past the open White Lake/Manitou River looking at skyline, open fields and geese. We sat with Gib and Florence at Carol’s and Earl’s. Sharon Hall’s daughter Lori and Kelly’s dad. I’m glad she introduced herself. The twins, Kate and Colleen and their guys, Rick and Allan I said hi to cousin Donna too!

At church today Dot told me that Pat Edward had passed away. Sympathy to the families and friends.

After church we lunched at Carol’s and Earl’s with Pauline, Wayne, Justin, Kayla and Quillan. Justin’s sermon/service was very Irish-based on St. Patrick’s life and story. Well done!

Hey have you seen the show “Little Big Shots” with Steve Harvey? How amazing the talent!

I think Thursday night is the euchre tournament again, too.

Lori and Rick spent a couple of days with friends in Martin River.
