Community is…
To the Expositor:
There are moments in life that you become aware of your surroundings in a deeper way than the usual five senses. I was blessed with such a moment on Saturday night when my sense of community was re-defined by the people of Manitoulin at our Charles C. McLean Grade 7/8 fundraising dinner and dance. I’m sure that my students in attendance have also caught a glimpse of the generous qualities that permeate Manitoulin communities.
Community is Melody Hore and her husband, Murray. Melody’s positive energy, unlimited generosity and organizational prowess made the dinner a success. Murray’s quiet determination to keep the volunteers on track made our jobs easy. People like Melody and Murray are the fingers and toes of communities like Burpee Mills and Gordon…we wouldn’t get much done without them.
Community is the Burpee Mills Recreation Committee who allowed our use of the beautiful hall at a reasonable cost. As well, the folks at the Silverwater Recreation Committee came to our aid at the last minute with some much needed coffee making equipment.
Community is the Family Traditions band (Art and Christie) who played music that kept everyone movin’ and groovin’ on the dance floor. We also had many generous donations for the Silent Auction from many people including the Featherstone family’s gift of tickets and t-shirt for the Bluegrass in the Country music festival.
Community is the parents, grandparents and siblings who helped out…thank you for your time, effort and enthusiasm!
The Grade 7/8 class of C.C. McLean is raising funds for their year-end trip. We appreciate the support of a community and we recognize what makes the communities of Manitoulin so special.
