Evansville athlete filmed for Future Legends TV program

EVANSVILLE—With the success that Joseph Maxwell has had over the past several years in shot put and discus it is fitting that filming took place earlier this week as he will be featured in an episode of the television show Future Legends. Meanwhile, at a competition this past weekend, Mr. Maxwell garnered a first place finish and set a personal best mark in the shot put.

“The show is called Future Legends and will be broadcast nationally on a network called Win HD,” Mr. Maxwell told the Recorder. “They are based out of the Caribbean, but they are just starting to branch out into Canada and they had approached me in September of last year with this idea.”

“After the Nationals last September they contacted me saying that my performance was pretty impressive and they wanted to feature me on their show. We have been trying to arrange a filming date since then.”

“First they are filming me at an indoor competition at York University (this past Sunday),” explained Mr. Maxwell last week. “Directly after that, on Monday they will be flying me back to Sudbury and we will travel to the Island and film on Tuesday.”

“They will be featuring me for shot put,” said Mr. Maxwell. “I imagine a lot of the filming will be more indoor stuff in the weight room in our basement and interviews with my parents. We’re flying out on Monday night and will be filming on Tuesday from 9 am to 3 pm.

Mr. Maxwell said, “I know they will be featuring other athletes on the show, I think they cover a variety of sports. For instance, I know they are filming a feature story on a hockey player in Sudbury around the same time I’m flying back from Toronto.

“They will be airing the show sometime in the spring,” said Mr. Maxwell. “I will be going to Florida in March, as I’ve been invited to the Athletics Ontario team training camp (which is held for all the best athletes 20 years of age and under). I’ll be there for eight days; it will be nice to be somewhere warm and comfortable.”

As noted above, Mr. Maxwell took part in an indoor competition held this past Saturday at York University. “Joseph did very well,” stated his father, Steve. “He had a first place finish and set a personal best mark with the new weight he is throwing, six kilogram shot-put, with a mark of 18.24 metres.”
