MSS prepares for N. Shore championships

M’CHIGEENG—For the first time in several years, if ever, Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) has a competitive Nordic ski team.

“We have set up a Nordic ski team at the school,” said teacher David Wiwchar, who is coach of the team which includes skiers Tommy Wiwchar, Mackenzie Turner, Sarah Hovingh, Beth Wiwchar and Elena Hovingh .

“No one at the school I’ve talked to can recall the last time MSS had a competition ski team; at least not in recent memory,” said Mr. Wiwchar.

The MSS team practiced on the John and Heather Turner (parents of Mackenzie) property last weekend, said Mr. Wiwchar.

The MSS team will be taking part in a classic track North Shore Secondary School Athletics competition being held at the Boom Camp Trails in Blind River on February 10.
