Margaret Mary Hurley (nee Morrison) unexpectedly but peacefully surrounded by her loving children was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the age of 93. Predeceased by her husband Robert E Hurley. Loving mother of Dr. R Morrison Hurley and his wife Brenda and Anne (Prickett) Capper. Cherished Gramma of Dr. Erin Hurley (Mark Elkin), Dr. Robert W Hurley (Dr. Meredith Adams), Liselle Prickett, Jason Prickett (Sandra Stewart) and Great-Gramma of Hugh, Beatrice, Gibson, Alexandra, Sebastian, Leah, Genevieve, and Justin. Predeceased by her parents George and Nellie Morrison (nee Watson), Doris Flowers, David and Gelena. Marg was born and raised in the tight knit community of South Baymouth and later moved to Manitowaning. She worked in the summers on the SS Manitoulin, MS Hibou, and later the MS Normac. She left the Manitoulin at age 15 but returned to Manitowaning during WW2 to help in her parents’ business while her husband was in the Army. She spent the rest of her life in Owen Sound with the exception of two years in Summerside, PEI and four in London, ON. She lived for her family, church and community as Charter member and President of the CWL, President of the Bothwell Corners Women’s Institute, 4-H and Girl Guide Leader, Volunteer Coordinator for the tuck shop at Mackinnon Phillips Hospital, founder of Spero, a drop in centre for the mentally ill and Forever Young Singing Group, Meals on Wheels driver, and more recently formed the Residents Council at Kelso Villa. She was a lifetime knitter, rug hooker, storyteller and made a difference in many peoples lives. Visitation was held at Breckenridge Ashcroft Funeral Home, Owen Sound on January 8, 2016. The funeral mass was held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at St. Mary’s Church with internment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Owen Sound.
