LAMBAC receives Trillium funding to develop program to benefit local farmers
MANITOULIN—LAMBAC has received funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to develop a new program with local farmers.
“Ontario is investing $51,700 over 11 months to develop a project at the idea or conceptual stage to support new and transitional farms with capital, training and mentoring. Enhancing people’s economic well being, this initiative is helping people become entrepreneurs, and has an impact on the lives of 35 people in the community,” a press release outlining the funds being provided for LAMBAC notes.
Ontario is investing $53.5 million in non-profit organizations through the OTF. This investment will benefit nearly one million people across the province.
The grants are supporting 326 projects in the social services, environment, sports and recreation and arts and culture sectors. The grants will support many important projects, notes the release.
“We will be holding meetings to determine how this project-program will be set up,” said Michael Addison, general manager of LAMBAC. “It will be a good project that we will be working on with local farmers. We are working on this with a couple of partners.”
More information on the program will be detailed in a future edition of the Recorder.
“I am proud that through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, our government is investing in the non-profit sector and creating positive change in our province,” said Michael Coteau, minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “Non-profit organizations are the heart of their communities and I know these grants will benefit people across Ontario.”
“The grant review team has gone above and beyond to ensure that OTF is making the right decisions when making investments in communities,” said Janet Yale, board chair of OTF. “What’s even more exciting is that, with the new strategy, we will be able to measure the impact these organizations will have in the communities they serve. Congratulations to all our grantees. I am looking forward to hearing about your work and the successful stories that flow from your initiatives.”
