War Pensioners of Canada recognizes local members at awards ceremony

M’CHIGEENG—Several long standing and hard working members of the War Pensioners of Canada (WPC) North Shore branch were officially recognized for their efforts when the WPC held its annual year end awards meeting lunch event at Season’s Restaurant in M’Chigeeng on Thursday, December 10.

The group recognized several members with medals recognizing their number of years of service and efforts to the WPC. “Every medal we are presenting is being given for a reason. They are being presented for the contributions and support they have given to the war pensioners,” said Colin Pick of the WPC North Shore branch.

Gerry Kitts and Richard Lynch are both receiving a five-year service medal as WPC North Shore committee members. “They are receiving these medals for serving on the board and being involved in the executive committee and participating and helping out at many events,” said Mr. Pick.

Mr. Pick and Ray Constantineau then presented a 10-year service medal to Brian Sprack. “Brian has been with us since this organization was formed in 2004,” said Mr. Pick. “He has been around to help us in many capacities, on the executive committee, for events and projects.”

“As our padre over the years Red Butler has been with us as an organization since we got started,” said Mr. Pick. “He has participated in many ceremonies and events for the war pensioners,” in presenting him with an exceptional medal for 10 years service to the WPC.

Eileen Caverly and Jim Corrigan were  both presented with exceptional service WPC 100th anniversary medals. “Eileen has been our secretary-treasurer for a number of years,” said Mr. Pick. “We give this medal to members who have done a lot of work for the organization over the years,” he said.

Mr. Pick explained the WPC has begun to present the 100th anniversary medals with the WPC. The illustrious WPC anniversary will take place in six years time.

“This next guy to receive a 100th anniversary medal, Jim Corrigan, is another member that doesn’t miss much in terms of activities and events we hold,” said Mr. Pick. “He attends all ceremonies we  hold, helps with putting plaques on veterans headstones and more. Jim is like my right hand man in arranging all these events.”
