With sadness the family announces the sudden death of Irving “Hoey” Stanley McDermid at the Mindemoya Hospital on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the age of 76. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. He is the brother of Murray and wife Toots McDermid; uncle of Sally and Jamie; brother of Davis “Blair” (predeceased); brother-in-law of Shirley McDermid; uncle of Mark and Joanne; great-uncle of Jesse, Morgen, Jason (predeceased), Tyler and Zachary; son of parents J.F. McDermid and Elsie (nee Bailey) (both predeceased). Born, raised and resided in Providence Bay, Hoey loved the beach. He was a shareholder in the J.F. McDermid Hardware Store in Providence Bay, where he spent his life working. He loved fishing in his big boat, and sharing his catch with residents of the town. He enjoyed hunting and was a good hockey and baseball player. His favourite way to spend his time was 4-wheeler riding, in later years as his health failed it became a fun necessity. Cremation was his request which will be followed by a graveside service in Providence Bay Cemetery (all welcome). The time and date will be determined later.
