Greater Sudbury Police Service wants the public to be aware of an online scam involving Apple ID.
This scam involves an email that claims to be from Apple Support and tells the user that their Apple ID and iCloud are both going to be suspended because the user did not complete verification on time. With the amount of new Apple devices being sold at the moment, this attack may hit many Apple product users.
The email scam explains that Apple sent the user an earlier email about this but they did not receive a response. The email has a “Verify now” link that allows the user to complete the verification process and save the users account from suspension.  If a user clicks the link, they land on a bogus Apple login page asking for their credentials.
Should the user follow this scam, the user will be taken to a second fake page that asks for a large amount of personal and financial information including credit card and banking details. The page is designed to look like a real Apple webpage and even includes seemingly legitimate information explaining in detail why the user needs to complete the verification process.
This scam even has retaliation against users testing the phish. If a user enters false data that includes words such as ‘scam’ into fields on the fake form, the browser will automatically redirect to a preconfigured Google search for pornography. Check out this Website Also.
Don’t fall for this scam. Always go direct to the website of your vendor and do not click on links in emails that look like they are legitimate.  Contact Apple at reportphishing@apple.com to report an email of this nature.
