Little Current Library Notes by Marian Barnett

The NEMI Public Library at 50 Meredith St. W., Little Current, is a favourite drop-in place especially during October, Library Month in Ontario. Library Week itself, October 14 to 24, saw a variety of activities happening there.

The Outreach volunteers did their regular, much appreciated book visits to shut-in Manor residents. The Wednesday afternoon bridge players started up again for the coming months, and organizer JoAnne Pilon invites new players to join. Friday afternoon board games or cards is back for the cooler months. Everyone is welcome. The knitting group and “Creation Station,” an informal art workshop, enjoyed getting together too. Mrs. Kift had coffee and snacks all Library Week to welcome visitors.

“Bits Bytes and Brushes” is this year’s program at the Library for seniors, funded by a Trillium Foundation grant. If you want to learn more about technology, or do something creative with arts and crafts, drop in to chat with Ruth Wilson, program organizer. Some of the facilitors she has lined up are John Savage, Ted Bemister (tech): Dorothy Atchison, Jean Narozanski, and Judy Martin (arts).

The library art exhibit group has a bockbuster show planned–a solo display of Ivan Wheale paintings will be opening at the NEMI Public Library on November 14! Watch this paper for details.

Did you know that lightly used books and CDs can be bought at the library for 50 cents to a dollar—an ongoing fundraiser. Of course, new books are coming in all the time, eg., Louise Penny’s latest ‘The Nature of the Beast.’ If you don’t find the one you are looking for, ask the staff about interlibrary loan. Chances are they will it for you. And in audio visuals, Seasons 4 and 5 of ‘Boardwalk’ is in, plus lots of oldy-goldies.

October is a great time to revisit your local library at 50 Meredith St. W. It’s there for you!
