Murray McDermid was laid to rest in a special graveside memorial service last Wednesday. Following the service, family and friends gathered for a wonderful luncheon. Thank you to the ladies.
We’ve really been blessed with what seemed like an idyllic late summer, but fall has decided it’s time for a change. The weather has been cooler and windier and a lots of the clouds we’re seeing are looking like snow. Although we haven’t seen the white stuff yet, we have had a couple of frosts to let us know it’s on the way.
Donations continue to come in through the donation jar at Buie’s and by bringing any empties in to Matt Young. This is for the work being done to the village square. Some of the plants that were recovered prior to work starting have been transplanted in temporary beds until they can be put into their permanent homes. The large limestone rocks were delivered and are scheduled to be strategically placed in the near future. It’s really coming along.
It was sure great seeing Harry and Charlene Sullivan up for a visit.
Don’t forget that this Saturday is Halloween and you need to ensure you have enough treats so that you don’t end up getting a trick. Please make sure it’s a safe Halloween night and be sure to wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight. Check all candy before giving it to the kids.
There is an open house at the curling club Sunday, November 1 at 1 pm. Come on in and sign up for some fun and exercise this winter. The Men’s League is held every Thursday evening. Mixed leagues are held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons or on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

There is a meat spiel being held at the curling club on November 6 and 7. It costs $200/team of four. Come on and curl to win some locally grown meat as prizes!
There is also a fundraiser being held for our Special Olympians (curlers and snowshoers) going to Newfoundland in February. The fundraiser is a curling bonspiel being hosted at the Gore Bay Curling Club November 27 and 28. Open to all. Contact Ellen at 705-377-4692 or Heather at 705-282-3494 to enter.
A correction to last weeks’ paper: The monthly euchre tournament rounds are held the last Tuesday of every month, not Thursday as reported.
