ASSIGINACK— The Township of Assiginack is excited to be gearing up for its 2nd Annual Pumpkin Festival on Sunday, October 25 from 11 am to 3 pm.

“We have heard rumours of pumpkin catapults being built,” Jackie White, project and events coordinator, told The Expositor. “This was definitely the highlight event last year, and this year we upped the stakes by giving some big cash prizes:  first place, $300; second place, $200; and third place, $100. We had five catapults last year and are hoping they return bigger and better, as well as seeing some new ones entering the competition. All the rules can be found through a link on our website at Assiginack.ca.”

There is plenty for kids and families to do as well. Horse and wagon rides will be going on as well as opportunities for kids to decorate cupcakes and pumpkins. A seed spitting contest is a must-see as this event is always a riot to watch and participate in! Games will take place on the tennis courts for the kids at noon.

Assiginack is also thrilled to have twice as many vendors as last year attending and food will also be served in the pavilion.

“As for contests, we have a baking contest, so hone your pumpkin cooking skills and bring in a pumpkin dish!” Ms. White urges. “Best Centrepiece using a pumpkin is new this year, check out Pinterest for lots of inspiration!”

For the children there is a best decorated/carved pumpkin contest for them to enter, just ensure their name is on it somewhere! Entries must be in by noon.

“Come on out and enjoy the fall colours on your way to Manitowaning to take part in our Pumpkin Festival!” Ms. White concludes. “We hope you all come out and enjoy this fun festival!”
