OPP charges male for impaired driving
On Thursday, October 8 at around 8:30 pm, an officer of the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was dispatched to a vehicle in the ditch on Bidwell Road in Assiginack Township. Police arrived on scene to find silver Chev Sierra pickup truck in the southbound ditch and determined that the driver had consumed alcohol.
As a result of the officer’s investigation, a 69-year-old male of Manitowaning was arrested and charged with the following: driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle, contrary to the Criminal Code and driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol, contrary to the Criminal Code.
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Monday, November 30 to answer to his charges.
The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
Smashed windows in Lakeview
Officers of the UCCMAnishnaabe Police are investigating several incidents of mischief that occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, September 25. The first incident that was reported to police occurred at Lakeview School. At approximately 6 am several persons attended the front of the school. One of the unknown persons threw several rocks, breaking two windows at the front entrance way to the school. Video cameras captured the incident when it occurred. As officers were investigating this incident, at 9:50 am, a second occurrence of mischief was discovered by police. Directly across Highway 551, from Lakeview School, a vehicle parked at an apartment building was located with a window smashed out of it. It appears that the person responsible had thrown a rock at this car as well. Police believe that the same people are responsible for both incidents.
Police are seeking any information to confirm the identity of persons that committed these crimes.
