Half a century later, quilt returns to West End

WESTERN MANITOULIN— After 55 years, a cherished quilt has returned to Western Manitoulin. When Rev. George Leck, his wife Ginger and their family left the Western Manitoulin United Church Pastoral Charge in 1952, the women of the four West End churches, Meldrum Bay, Silverwater, Elizabeth Bay and Evansville, presented them with a Name Quilt, with the names of all of the members of the four congregations embroidered on it.

After an earlier visit to the Net Shed Museum by family members, the four now retirement-aged Leck children decided to give the quilt to the museum.

On Monday, August 24, the Lecks and their spouses travelled from southern Ontario to Meldrum Bay, where they stayed at the Inn. A group of folks from the Meldrum Bay Historical Society met with the family at the museum Monday evening, to accept the lovingly made and long cherished quilt, with many thanks for this generous gesture.
