MANITOULIN– Manitoulin has proved fertile soil for the plein air art movement over the summer. Susan Lampinen and Sharon Preen have inspired enthusiasts of outdoor drawing/painting to meet once a month at various area sites. The latest activity took place at Gail Meehan’s property which afforded great views of the North Channel the La Cloche mountains.
A relaxed, informal atmosphere makes experienced and eager-to-learn beginners feel comfortable. Participants bring their own supplies of preferred media, an easel and folding chair if they wish, and lunch if they plan to stay all day.
“I love the social aspect,” says Helen Siksek, who drove from Gore Bay to take part. Paulette Soganich adds, “I still consider myself a student, and to see how Susan works is a great opportunity.” At lunchtime, sharing takes place.
The next plein air event is planned for September 9 at Jean Narozanski’s beautiful Pepper Point Garden in Sheguiandah from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm (or come and go as you wish). To register, call the library at 705-368-2444 or contact Linda at dljacks@live.ca or Marian at marimaybarnett@hotmail.com.
