UCCM Castle Building Centre victim of employee theft
On March 15, 2015 UCCM Anishnaabe Police received a report of an internal theft by an employee of the Castle Building Centre located on the M’Chigeeng First Nation. An investigation revealed that an employee had been taking money directly from the business over an undetermined period of time. Staff at the local lumber yard had began to notice unusual activity by the accused. Management reviewed daily transactions, video surveillance and discrepancies in the inventory, which indicated thefts had occurred.
As a result of the investigation, a 54-year-old female of Espanola has been charged with 11 counts of theft under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused has been released on a Promise to Appear in Gore Bay Court on June 22, 2015.

Discover UCCM Police in Police Week 2015
May 11 to 17 is National Police Week and the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service will be participating. This year’s theme is “Discover Policing” and will give an opportunity for the communities to connect with the police service and its civilian staff. Police Week has been recognized at a national level since 1970 and this year the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service is ramping it up a notch to showcase our staff and facility. Our objective is to increase awareness as to who we are and the services we provide. This year we are celebrating 20 years as a ‘stand alone’ Police Service.
On Friday, May 15 between 11 am and 2 pm we will be hosting an open house at the UCCM Police Office Station on Highway 540 in M’Chigeeng. All community members are invited to attend and take part in the event. Various displays will be set up including: a fleet show and shine, equipment demos, meet and greet the staff, office tours, info booths and a complimentary barbecue. Individuals that are seeking a rewarding and fulfilling career in law enforcement are encouraged to attend. We are striving to attract, inspire, and motivate individuals to pursue a career in First Nations policing.
