HINTON, ALBERTA—Manitoulin biathlete Mackenzie Turner topped of a successful winter season, full of personal bests, placing in the top 20 in all her races at the National Biathlon Championships in Hinton, Alberta earlier this month.
“The races went well, not my best races, but okay,” said the Ice Lake athlete. “I placed 18th in the 6km sprint, 20th in the 7.5km pursuit and 15th in the 7.5km individual. It was an awesome time, I met a lot of new people and made lots of new friends.”
It was the end of the season for Mackenzie but she told The Expositor she will continue to train throughout the summer and into next season.
Prior to nationals, Mackenzie competed at the Quebec Cup event held in Chelsea, Quebec, finishing first in both of her races.
The 16-year-old also represented Ontario at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George British Columbia where she competed as an ‘under age’ against girls in the youth division (17 to 18-year-olds) and proudly represented Team Ontario.
