MHC Auxiliary News

Our March agenda focussed on coming events, special donations, fundraising and ways to celebrate our 70th anniversary.

The Casserole Dinner tickets are now available from members and at the Tuck Cart Room door from Monday to Friday from 11 am to 1 pm. The price is still only $10 and only 100 are being sold. Buy early and don’t miss the best dinner in town! If you wish to donate a casserole, a potato dish or a cake, call Sue at 705-368-2336.

Vesey’s bulbs are on sale from now until mid-April. Many new items are featured. For each order of $40 or more you will receive 25 Mr. Fokker’s anemone bulbs, absolutely free. Contact a member or call Dave at 705-368-1709 for more information.

There will be one more Book Sale in the cafeteria at the hospital later this spring.

Beginning the long weekend in May, books will be available at the NEMI Farmers’ Market. Please do not drop off any books at the Manitoulin Health Centre as we have no room to store them.

Tickets for a cash raffle will be on sale soon. The prizes are $1,000 (1), $500 (1) and $100 (3). The draw will be on Saturday, September 5 at the NEMI Farmers’ Market.

Arrangements are complete for our delegates to the annual spring conference in Parry Sound in early April. The theme of the conference is ‘Aging Well.’

We passed a motion to purchase another bed at a cost of $10,000. A generous donation from the estate of Irene Cadieux, topped up with funds from the Helpp Lottery and the In Memoriam Fund, enabled us to buy the bed.

Matters regarding fundraising were discussed. Fundraising methods have changed over the years and new ways to continue to fulfill our commitment to serve the MHC in the best way we can must be found and tried. The Fundscrip pre-paid gift card campaign is the newest venture. The Auxiliary benefits from the sale of each card with three percent to 10 percent of the card value. We ask that you consider buying a gift card for your everyday needs like food. A $50 gift card for use at Valu-Mart or Foodland results in a return of $1.50 to the Auxiliary. Over a year, that’s an $18 donation. There is no extra cost to you. You buy a $50 card, you spend $50! Pick up a form by the Tuck Cart Room door at the MHC. For more information, call Dave at 705-368-1709 or Barb at 705-368-3114. We count on you to make Fundscrip work.

Some plans for ways to celebrate 70 years of service to the local hospital are made and others are still in the discussion stage. Mugs like the ones for the sixtieth anniversary will be sold as well as buttons. Supporters and members can purchase the same type of button. The only difference is that one says ‘Supporter,’ the other says ‘Member.’

We appreciate your support in all of our fundraisers. We succeed only by the generosity of the public.

Please keep in mind the Fundscrip program as a minimum often participants per month is required to make the program viable.

See you on March 20 at the Casserole Dinner!
