EDMUND SEGLINS

Seglins-DeathEdmund Seglins passed away peacefully at York Extendicare on January 16, 2015, with family present, at the age of 94. Predeceased by his wife Eleanor Seglins, he is survived by his daughter Dinah Timmermans of Sudbury and his son John Seglins of Baysville, Ontario. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Jennifer and Jackson Skilling of Sudbury and Sheguiandah, Manitoulin Island. Edmund was born in Harbin, China, in 1920, but returned to his native Latvia until after the Second World War. Edmund and his wife Eleanor immigrated to Canada and lived in Sudbury, Ontario, where Ed was employed at INCO until retirement to Little Current, Manitoulin Island. Ed will always be remembered for his imagination and talent in woodworking and painting. He spent countless hours in his workshop, crafting and painting fine furniture, animals, birds, and flowers, using local wood when possible, like black walnut and maple burl. His eye for detail, colour, and texture is evident in these uniquely crafted pieces. Ed loved nature and found that the beauty of Manitoulin Island was a great inspiration for his artistry. A special thank you goes to Dr. Cooper of the Manitoulin Health Centre, and Dr. Roch of Health Sciences North and York Extendicare. Edmund received compassionate care by the fifth floor staff at York. Interment will follow at a later date at Elmview Cemetery, Sheguiandah, Manitoulin Island. Contributions to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
