New manager takes helm at Manitoulin Hotel

LITTLE CURRENT—Glenn Black of Providence Bay took over the helm as general manager of the new Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre last week and said that he is looking forward, along with the board and the rest of his staff, to making the hotel the Island’s premier accommodation facility.

As part of that plan, Mr. Black said that he was looking forward to exploring partnerships with local businesses and events to build on those the facility has already established with the Rainbow Ridge Golf Course and Great Spirit Circle Trail.

“I don’t really see us as being in competition with motels like the Hawberry (Motel in Little Current),” he said. Mr. Black himself operates a bed and breakfast operation in Providence Bay. “I think that the hotel can be made to operate to everyone’s benefit.”

Mr. Black said that he was also very impressed with the quality and number of marketing ideas that have been brought forward by the staff and the receptiveness of the board to making things happen.

“I am impressed with the board and I am looking forward to working with them,” he said, noting that the demarcation of roles has been clearly defined. “They work on setting policy and I am in charge of the day-to-day operations.”

“The board is responding very favourably to what needs to be done,” he said of the working relationship with the board. “There was a huge investment made by the First Nations people that they need to see a good return on.”
