Traffic stop leads to drug charges

WEST PARRY SOUND – On December 6, 2014, the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling Highway 69 in Carling Township. At approximately 12:28 a.m. Police conducted a traffic stop on a northbound green Chevrolet that was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. Police investigation and a search of the vehicle led to the seizure of over 20 grams of marijuana.

The passenger, John KIRSCHNER, 45 years of age from Aylmer was arrested and charged with:

  1. Possession of a Schedule II Substance – under 30 grams as per the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA).
  2. Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The driver, James FRIARS, 34 years of age from Bayham was arrested and charged with:

  1. Possession of a Schedule II Substance – under 30 grams as per the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA).

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Parry Sound on January 8, 2015 to answer to his charges.
