JOHN HOWARD VANHORN

John Howard VanHorn, formerly of Tehkummah, died at the Manitoulin Lodge, Gore Bay on May 6, 2011 in his 77th year. Loved husband of Betty (nee Howard) predeceased 2003. Dear dad of Hector (Marilyn Prior) of Gore Bay, Barry (predeceased 1981), Gilbert (predeceased 1979), Jacqueline of Cambridge and Becky (Rod Wilson) of Sudbury. Special grandpa to Tobi Kearns, B.J. Taylor (Ashley) and Ariana Mandigo, all of Cambridge, Tyler (Amy) Eadie, Benjamin and Mikala Hull and Tammy Mutch, all of Sudbury, and D.J. (Lindsay) VanHorn of Espanola. Great-grandpa to Angelica, Logan, Riley, Abigail and Cameron. Brother of Glen (Eula), Shirley Haggard (Jim), Lloyd (Judy), Delbert (Marilyn), Beverly (predeceased 2001) (Janey), Betty-Lou (predeceased 1996), Mary Gilbert (died in infancy). Brother-in-law of Leta Howard, Rita Parkinson, Dorothy Allard, Junior Chisolm, Marie Caradonna, Len and Eleanor Bond, Len and Ilene Howard, Tom & Florence Howard, Jane Howard & Cecile Howard. Special friend to Jean Brandow. John began his working life as a farm labourer around Manitoulin. In the 1950s and 60s he worked at Inco. He then came home to work for himself. In his later years he devoted his time to a market garden for which much praise has been given. Visitation is Wednesday, May 11 from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. Funeral service is Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 11 am. All at Island Funeral Home, Little Current. Burial in Elmview Cemetery, Sheguiandah.
