Suspect flees R.I.D.E check

SUDBURY – On the evening of November 24, 2014, officers from the Sudbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting RIDE checks on MR35, near the intersection of MR15 and Highway 144, City of Greater Sudbury.

At approximately 9:25 p.m., officers observed a northbound black Dodge pick-up truck on MR35 approaching the RIDE check.  The truck made an abrupt U-turn in order to avoid the RIDE check and fled southbound at a high rate of speed.  Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver failed to do so.  Officers pursued the vehicle for approximately one kilometer before it came to a stop in a driveway at the end of Elizabeth Street.  At this time, the male driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area.

Greater Sudbury Police Service K9 and tactical officers attended the scene to assist.  A search was conducted but the suspect was not located.

As a result of the investigation, the male driver was identified and arrested on November 25, 2014.

Charged with Flight While Pursued by Police Officer, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Stunt Driving is René LADOUCEUR, age 46 of Chelmsford, ON.  He received a 7-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

He was released from custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on January 7, 2015.
