GERALDINE VIOLA HENDERSON (NEE LEWIS)

Henderson-DeathGeraldine Henderson passed away peacefully at Sudbury Health Sciences North on Friday, November 14, 2014 in her 88th year. Adored wife of Jim Henderson for more than 66 years. Beloved Mother of Peggy Henderson of Limoges, Fred (Juliet) of Brampton, David (Carol) of Mindemoya, Janet (David) Levere of Winchester, Gordon (Helene) of Sault Ste. Marie, and Lynn (Larry) Zettle of Guelph. Proud Grandma of Bryant (Reagan) Quinn, Kerry Lynn Beaulne, and Rachel Quinn, Philip (fiancé Zoe) Henderson and Tamara Henderson, Kailey Henderson, Alison (Dave) Summers, Leslie Levere (Craig Adams) and Aaron (Britney) Levere, Justen Henderson, Lauren and Connor Zettle and 10 great-grandchildren. Born on Manitoulin Island to the late David and Grace (Buie) Lewis. Survived by sisters Jean (Tom) Lennon, Elda (Gil) Novak and Wilhemine (late Colin) Campbell. Also survived by sister-in-laws Blanche Henderson, Betty Clark, and Corinne Lewis. Predeceased by sisters Hilda (John) Collins, Velma (Joe) Devitt, and brother Leslie Lewis. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins. As a young woman, Geraldine moved to Toronto to work and met her future husband Jim Henderson whom she married in 1948. In 1949, they moved to Manitoulin Island. Geraldine and Jim were partners in the successful Henderson Electric, which still operates today. Her family was most important to her and she enjoyed hosting many family gatherings. She was known for her excellent meals and tasty baking. Geraldine was a member of the Mindemoya United Church. Over the years she was active in many local organizations including the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary, Community Living, and Mindemoya Figure Skating Club. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years until the age of 83. Well known in local curling circles, she and Jim enjoyed many bonspiels with Dr. Jack and Mary McQuay. Other hobbies which gave her pleasure included traveling, quilt making (one for each child and grandchild), flower gardening, playing bridge, euchre and cribbage. She enjoyed watching many local and national sports especially the Blue Jays. Visitation was held at the Mindemoya United Church on Monday, November 17, 2014 from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. The funeral service was held at the church on Tuesday, November 18 at 11 am followed by the interment at the Mindemoya Cemetery. Donations to the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary, Mindemoya United Church or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Culgin Funeral Home, Gore Bay.
