Cranial adjustments offered at Espanola’s Inner Connections

by Betty Bardswich

MANITOULIN—Chiropractors perform non-invasive treatment of neuromuscular disorders including back and neck pain, headaches, repetitive sprains and injuries from work or sports. The Ontario Chiropractic Association states that almost 2 million patients in this province rely on this care every year. Residents of the North Shore and Manitoulin are fortunate to have several of these practitioners in this area, including in Mindemoya, Little Current and Espanola.

Doctor Dario Laurenti has practiced chiropractics for the past 23 years at Inner Connections for Living Excellence in Espanola where he works one on one with people for pain management, lifestyle and personal development. His wife Theresa also works at the Espanola office and sat down with The Expositor to talk about an exciting facet of chiropractic that her husband has been practicing for the past few years.

Ms. Laurenti began by explaining that the skull, or cranial, is made up of bone plates that are attached by connective tissue. This tissue contains nerve endings and arteries that nourish the brain and keep the tissue alive. People have always believed that the skull was unmovable, but Ms. Laurenti asserts that recent studies indicate the knowledge that there is movement, albeit very little, in the connective tissue between the skull’s bone plates and that this movement can lead to misalignment of the skull. “Cranial adjusting,” she said, “realigns the joints or connective tissue of the skull to provide free flowing energy, not only into the skull, but through the meninges, which are surrounding the brain and spinal cord. This allows for fluid to flow through the area and nourish the brain itself. The chiropractor makes a very gentle and minor adjustment to the area in which the skull is not aligned. Through this process of removing the interference, the body generates the power to heal and correct itself.”

Ms. Laurenti explained that her husband visited Little Current to see Dr. Roger Turner, DC, who teaches cranial adjustment and shadowed him for some time to learn the technique. Dr. Laurenti was especially excited to see Dr. Turner perform cranial adjustment on a child who had trouble reading. After the treatment, the child’s level of ease and comprehension elevated to an estimated 80 to 90 percent. Dr. Laurenti also saw other great results that Dr. Turner was getting such as relieving some of the symptoms of autism and learning disabilities and realized that he had to bring this treatment to this area as Dr. Turner is now practicing in Barrie.

“The most common comment from people,” Ms. Laurenti said, “is that their thinking is clearer and that they didn’t realize they were experiencing brain fog. Other patients in our care have experienced the return of the sense of smell after over two years without being able to smell, the complete correction of tinnitus and chronic dizziness and recovery from chronic vertigo. Cranial adjustments on children who have a case of agitated or aggressive behaviours, short attention span, sensitivities to light or sound can find a substantial reduction of these symptoms during this therapy. And what about our kids playing hockey and soccer and so on and experience falls and concussions? Falls can cause misalignment of bones.”

In a written testimonial, one patient who saw Dr. Laurenti said, “I have benefited greatly from the cranial adjustments. After my first week of treatment, I was lying in bed wondering why it was so quiet and realized the ringing and buzzing in my ears had stopped. I have also had my left sinus cleared which has not been clear in a very long time.”

Ms. Laurenti also explained that cranial adjustment results are helpful for nurses and others who work shift work with the resulting digestion problems and the upset of one’s internal clock. “They are finding great relief,” Ms. Laurenti said as she went on to explain that people are getting their lives back. “Cranial and spinal adjustments,” she added, “do not cure any condition; rather they remove the interference caused by misaligned bone placement and once that is achieved the body can heal itself and correct malfunction. The possibilities are endless once you remove the interference.”
