A hope that change for the better is coming soon

I am writing in response to Mr. Peter Martin’s letter in last week’s edition of the Expositor (‘Providence Bay marina has only seen improvement over the last four years,’ page 5), rebutting my previous ‘letter to the editor’ regarding the present situation at the Providence Bay dock.
Mr. Martin and others who have expressed their personal opinions on the matter are totally missing my point. I am drawing the general public’s attention to the fact that in 2011, the Canadian taxpayers paid $481,000 to Belanger Construction for repairs and renovations to the Federally owned dock at Providence Bay. Simply Google “Belanger Construction completed projects 2011,” click on ‘projects’ and scroll down. The next year, the daily operation of the dock was signed over to the present company by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and has resulted in the present situation where the general public is denied access to the facility to swim, park or fish. To my knowledge, there are no designated handicapped parking slots available at the facility. In Ontario, the law states that all businesses with parking lots must provide handicapped parking based on the total number of parking slots. If you are willing to spend money to launch a boat or moor your vessel, you are welcomed with open arms. If liability is the concern of the present operator of the facility, simply post signage informing the public to “park, fish or swim at their own risk” and also inform the boaters to “do at their own risk.” In closing, I and many others hope the present situation changes for the better soon.
