The MHC Auxiliary resumed its regular meeting schedule on Thursday, September 4. President Dave Sylvester opened the meeting, thanking the members and asked for continued support in efforts to assist the Manitoulin Health Centre in every way possible in the interests of the best patient care.
September is membership month! It’s time to renew or join. For $2 a year you can help us help others. We always need volunteers for our fundraising efforts. You can join as an active member, associate member or associate plus member. These titles designate whether you will actively support by attending meetings and taking an active role, choose to concentrate on one activity or merely pay your $2 to support the Auxiliary. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month and are open to all members. We plan fundraising events and discuss matters pertaining to the Auxiliary. Call the membership chairperson Leona at 705-368-1709 to renew or join.
The focus of our fundraising is to help in the purchase of 10 new beds in the Sweet Slumbers campaign for the Little Current site. In the spring, we donated enough to purchase one bed.
Here’s how we are currently fundraising.
- A raffle draw will begin very shortly. The cash prizes are $1,000, $500 and three prizes of $100. The draw date is December 18, just in time for last-minute Christmas purchases.
- Coin boxes are located in businesses around town. Thank you for dropping in your change to make this a successful fundraiser.
- The HELPP Lottery is usually open from 11 am to 1 pm, Monday to Friday, at the Tuck Cart room. All money raised through HELLP Lottery sales can only be used for equipment purchases.
- The Tuck Cart is open at the same times as the HELLP Lottery and is also available for sales when volunteers take the cart around the hospital. The Showcase is open anytime there is someone in the admitting office.
- In Memoriam donations are used for equipment purchases. Donors’ names are recorded in a book by the Tuck Cart room.
- Book sales continue at the Farmers’ Market, Saturdays from 9 am until noon until October 11. Sales have already surpassed last year’s. Books are also in the showcase and book sales will soon resume at the MHC.
- Donations of books and magazines are appreciated but presently we cannot accept drop-offs without prior consultation. We have no room. Please call Laila at 705-368-2580 to arrange for limited donations.
- We have enrolled in Fundscrip. We have the required 10 members and anticipate many more. The Auxiliary receives a minimum of three percent on purchases made with these prepaid cards. There will be more discussion and a detailed list of businesses participating in Fundscrip at our October 2 meeting. Make sure to become an Auxiliary member and attend.
- The annual Harvest Sale will be on October 11. Sue Lafreniere is the organizer. We rely on your generosity to donate veggies, fruit, preserves, baking and other goodies. It’s always a successful event!
