VERA LANGTON

April 7, 1915 – May 21, 2011
In loving memory of Vera Langton, formerly of Barrie Island and Lively, who died at the Manitoulin Lodge on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the age of 96 years. She was born in Romsey, Hampshire, England, daughter of the late Alfred Henry Edward and Lydia (Simkin) Wheeler. Vera had worked as a secretary for Shell Petroleum during the war years. She came to Canada in 1947 and had worked for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Vera was a member of Lyons Memorial United Church and the UCW in Gore Bay, and recently enjoyed the fellowship of St. Peter’s United Church in Sudbury. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and writing letters to her many pen pals. Vera’s greatest love in life was her family. She liked nothing better than spending time with all, especially her grandchildren. Vera will be sadly missed by them. Vera was predeceased by her beloved husband Charlie on April 18, 1998. Loving and loved mother of Anne (who became her committed caregiver and friend in later years) and her husband Wayne Jeffkins of Lively. Proud grandmother of Alison and husband Robert Godwin of Sudbury and Andrew and his wife Christina of Ottawa. Cherished “Gram-gram” of Chesley Charles Jeffkins Godwin, who kept her shoes on for the past two years. Adopted grandma of Jen, Susie, Kim, Caitie, Krista, Peter and Katie. Friends called at the Culgin Funeral Home, Gore Bay on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from 6 – 8 pm and on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 9:30 – 10:30 am. The funeral service to celebrate Vera’s life will be conducted at Lyons Memorial United Church on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 11 am. Interment in Gordon Cemetery. If so desired, donations (by cheque only) to the Lyons Memorial United Church, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Manitoulin Animal Welfare Fund would be appreciated by the family.
