Joseph Glenn Moggy, a resident of Manitowaning, died peacefully at Manitoulin Health Centre Mindemoya Site, on Monday, August 25, 2014 at the age of 73. Born to Elsie Moggy Chatwell and Walter Moggy, at Bidwell, Assiginack Township on May 16, 1941. Beloved husband of Marilyn Moggy. Loved father of Blake, Lori, Joanne. Proud grandfather of Sara-Lynn, Micheal and Jacob. Brother of Norma Hembruff (Don predeceased), Hugh and Marilyn Moggy, Rae and John Skippen, William “Bill” Moggy (Jill predeceased). Brother-in-law of Lina Condie, Bruce Pattison (predeceased) Yvonne, James Pattison (predeceased) Evelyn, Mary MacDonald (Walter), both predeceased. Will always be remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Glenn grew up in Assiginack and left the family farm at the age of 17 to work in Sudbury at Inco as a miner. It was not long before he met his wife Marilyn of 50 plus years. They moved to Southern Ontario and he began working for family at a farm dealership, which got him into the trucking business, a career that lasted a lifetime. In the 80s they relocated the family back to Naughton, Ontario. It was during this time they began to spend more and more time on the island and moved permanently to Manitowaning building a home on the property of the original Moggy homestead. Glenn was known for his willingness to help those he cared about including his charitable work as the past president and member of the Elks Lodge of Canada. For over 42 years he devoted his time, helping thousands of hearing impaired children and adults. When people describe Glenn the first thing that comes to mind is his incredible work ethic, working right until he couldn’t. His latest project was his beloved bulldog, Rodney, who provided such joy and comfort. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Glenn had a great sense of humour, a man of few words but when he spoke you listened. If he liked you, he really liked you. Celebration Of Life and burial took place on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Hilly Grove Cemetery. Donations to the Chemo room at Mindemoya Hospital in Glenn’s memory are appreciated.
