Providence Bay News and Notes

Thank you to the workers of the Summer Fun Program for another successful year of occupying youngsters from the Island and other visitors as well.

The Lake Huron Fish and Chips offer some of the best fish and chips around.

The Lions Club had a Corn and Rib Fest on Saturday at the Providence Bay Arena.  There was a large attendance and they delivered 60 meals to the Providence Bay Marina.

The Salmon Derby had 48 boats entered and there were over l00 fish caught. Everyone had a great time.

On behalf the community I would like to thank Sharon Dewar for starting the pop can for kids recycling program many years ago, long before the municipality started its recycling of materials. She thanks all the collectors of pop cans over the years and now that the cans can be recycled at the Providence Bay landfill site she asks for the continuation of it at the Providence Bay location. Thanks, Sharon.

The affordable chicken appeal by Glenn Black is awaiting an Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs appeal tribunal ruling.

Glenn and Judy Black retired their wind and solar batteries after 20 years of faithful service. The old batteries are recycled through Byer’s Salvage on Monument Rd. The new batteries are working well.

A goat costs the same price as a new lawn mower. It trims the lawn all summer automatically with no fossil fuel, all while providing milk and cream. At the end of the season you can fill your freezer with excellent goat meat, or have some baby goats for spring, sharing your environmental solution with your neighbour.
