Reel in some major cash at 3rd annual Pike and Bass Classic

WIKWEMIKONG—Wikwemikong Tourism is excited to announce the 3rd Annual Pike and Bass Classic at Prairie Point in Wikwemikong this weekend, August 23-24. The fishing boundaries for the event are Fishing Management Unit (FMU) Zone 14 from Maple Point east to Phillip Edward Island.

Entry is only $60 per person with a children’s division for only $10. There will be three top prizes for both pike and bass categories with over $6,000 in cash and prizes for the most accumulated weight over the course of the weekend.  Register before August 8 to qualify for the early bird draw for $500 plus all entrants qualify for the registration prize of a 2015 Rainbow Ridge season pass. Back by popular demand is the Q92 daily Mystery Fish Contest for $250 cash including some fantastic “mystery” prizes for the heaviest Mystery Fish. Proceeds from the event go to support tourism initiatives in Wikwemikong.

As the hosts of the popular ice fishing derby on Manitowaning Bay, Wikwemikong Tourism is excited to have Italo Labignan of Canadian Sportfishing film and co-host the event. This will be the second episode of the popular show expected to air in 2015 on Rogers Sportsnet Ontario.

“Through this partnership we will not only position Wikwemikong fishing events as premier tournaments in the province but we will also ensure long term economic impacts are realized,” states tourism coordinator Luke Wassegijig. The Pike and Bass Classis has also partnered with Fishbum Outfitters to bring to the official event t-shirts that can be purchased through Wikwemikong Tourism.

The official tournament registration will take place at Prairie Point in Wikwemikong, J & G Marina in Birch Island, and at Spider Bay Marina in Little Current on Friday, August 22 from 3 to 8 pm. Mystery fish entries can be purchased the day of registration or in advance at Wikwemikong Tourism. The prize table and dinner will be held on Sunday, August 23 hosted by Italo Labignan at Prairie Point which is conveniently located at the northern end of Wikwemikong, and can be accessed via boat within minutes from Killarney, Little Current and Manitowaning.

Wikwemikong Tourism is responsible for hosting a variety of tourism related events and cultural experiences throughout the year. Its parent organization the Wikwemikong Development Commission serves as the economic development branch of the Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve.
