VERA JOSEPHINE “BELLA” PITAWANAKWAT (NEE RECOLLET)


Momma passed gently and peacefully at Manitoulin Health Centre on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the age of 95. Born to Annie (nee Wakegijig) and Alexander Recollet at Wikwemikong on March 28, 1919. Bella will forever be remembered by her brothers Norman (Muriel predeceased), Isadore, brother-in-law Eugene and sister-in-law Lucy Ida. Bella was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Philip (Nancy), Eli (Annie), Margaret (Wilfred), Sam and Stella. Beloved wife of Thomas Pitawanakwat (predeceased). Bella was also predeceased by her beloved son Herman and three babies. Cherished mother of Malcolm (Connie), Rosemary, Eugene (Gloria), Agnes (Louis G), Joyce, Terrence and special daughter-in-law Beatrice. Devoted grandmother of Shauna, Rachel, Mark, Crystal, Brian, Lisa, Lenore, Wendy, Adrianne, Joshua, Robyn. Predeceased by Harley-ba and Mary-ba. Proud great-grandmother of 20. Cherished great-great-grandmother of three. Will always be remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Momma will be remembered in our hearts and her connection to the land. Her days were spent enjoying all seasons from doing gardening, berry picking, boating, fishing and being at camp. She loved to cook and bake and make preserves and fill her winter days quilting and knitting, ice fishing and being at the Maple Sugar Camp. Momma was dedicated to her family and a true reflection of pure love. Her home was our family’s haven where we were all welcomed with love and peacefulness. Momma will forever live in our hearts and cherished memories. Family and friends gathered at Rabbit Island Centre Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 1 pm. Funeral Mass was at 11 am at Holy Cross Mission on Saturday, August 9, 2014 with Father Henk van Meijel officiating. Burial was at Wikwemikong Lower Old Cemetery.
