Nothing can be gained by revisiting 1970 car crash, teen deaths

To the Expositor:

I was somewhat taken aback when I read in your paper plans to create a film of the 1970 tragedy, where so many young people lost their lives. (“Documentary film to look at 1970 Manitowaning car crash.” January 18, 2012. Page 3)

The more I think about it, I wonder what could possibly be gained by bringing back this tragic event, if not for monetary gain. Surely the families concerned have suffered enough.

My first cousin lost two sons in that tragic event. There have been other tragedies in my life, including the loss of a brother, a cousin and two nephews all taken due to accidents. I feel there are enough tragedies in life without digging up the past to create a further constant reminder.

Believe me, we who have been there need no reminder, as it is with us for life. Every accident is caused by someone’s carelessness and it is always the innocent who suffer the most. All the documentaries in the world won’t change that.

Thank you for allowing me to vent my feelings.

Sincerely,

Marie Lecappelain
