Mindemoya cyclist prepares for 11th fundraising tour boost

CALEDON—Mindemoya cyclist Dale Scott is preparing to embark on his 11th Tour for Kids Ontario—a four-day 650 km bicycle ride that supports camps for children with cancer, Camp Quality, Camp Ooch and Camp Trillium. These camps make it possible for children to have a summer of fun with others who have the same health challenges.

“Last year, 600 cyclists raised close to two million dollars through the tour,” explained Dr. Scott, who owns Scott Veterinary Services in Mindemoya. “A cycling friend of mine mentioned the tour to me years ago and I checked it out. I thought it was a good cause to ride for and was impressed that every dollar raised goes directly to the camps.”

Dr. Scott said he keeps participating in the ride year after year after visiting the camps and hearing testimony from the campers themselves.

“It is the best time of the year for them (the campers),” said Dr. Scott. “At home and at school they are different, but at camp everyone is the same and they get to just go and have fun.”

The cyclists will begin in Caledon on Thursday, August 14, travelling by way of scenic back roads to Waterloo University, then a northern route to the Arthur-Orangeville region on the southern region of Delhi-Tillsonburg and finally the Halton Hill area to Caledon, ending the tour on Sunday, August 17.

Dr. Scott has raised between $2,000 to $2,500 for past rides and is hoping to raise at least as much this year. To learn more about Tour for Kids Ontario or to donate visit www.tourforkids.com.
