LONDON—Three Manitoulin Pickleball Club members recently participated in a major tournament in London and all succeeded in bringing home medals.
Bud and Pierrette Hebner won the silver medal in mixed doubles in the 60 to 64 age category while Michael Myc of Manitoulin and Jody MacDonald of Barrie won the bronze in mixed doubles in the under 60 age category. Pierrette Hebner of Manitoulin and Carol Doughty of Durham won the bronze in the ladies doubles in the 60 to 64 age category.
Pickleball is a new racket sport for all ages and is the fastest growing sport in North America, especially among seniors. It’s played on a badminton-sized court and it’s much easier to play than tennis. Paddles and wiffle balls are used.
“Join us, it’s a great opportunity to socialize, exercise and have fun,” the club urges. “Our local club is at the arena in Little Current. We invite you to join us every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am to 12 noon. Paddles and balls are supplied for
beginners.”
